Alerts
Learn which budget, spending, failure, and MCP alerts Tokenize sends, and where to find and receive them.
Tokenize watches spend and usage and records an alert when something needs attention. Every alert appears on the Alerts page. If Slack is connected, alerts also post to the channel you choose, and some go to managers as direct messages.
Who can do this: Admins see every alert and can run Check now. Managers see alerts for the people and teams they manage. Other members don't have access to alert history.
Alert types
| Alert | When it fires |
|---|---|
| Organization budget: 80% used | Organization spend this month reaches 80% of the organization budget (the sum of your top-level team budgets). |
| Organization budget reached | Organization spend this month reaches 100% of the organization budget. |
| Team budget: 80% used | A team's spend this month reaches 80% of its budget. |
| Team budget reached | A team's spend this month reaches 100% of its budget. |
| Personal budget reached | A person's spend this month reaches their personal ceiling. |
| Unusual spending | Organization spend on the most recent full day was well above its usual daily amount. Needs some spending history first. |
| More tool failures | A person's tool failure rate on a day was well above their usual rate. |
| More API failures | A person's API failure rate on a day was well above their usual rate. |
| New MCP server | An MCP server name was seen in your organization for the first time in the last day. |
Budget alerts depend on the budgets you set. See Set team budgets. Budget months are calendar months in UTC.
Each alert fires once for what it's about. A budget alert fires once per team or person per month. A spending or failure alert fires once per day. A new-server alert fires once per server.
When alerts are checked
Tokenize checks for new alerts automatically. To check right away, go to Alerts and click Check now. You'll see how many new alerts fired, or "No new alerts." Alerts that already fired don't fire again.
If the check fails, you'll see "Couldn't check alerts. Try again."
Read alert history
Go to Alerts. Newest alerts are first. Use the filters at the top to:
- Show one alert type, such as Team budget or Unusual spending. Choose All alert types to see everything.
- Sort by Newest first or Oldest first.
If nothing has fired yet, the page says "No alerts triggered".
Where alerts are delivered
With Slack connected:
- Every alert posts to the alert channel you chose.
- Personal alerts (budget reached, tool failures, API failures) also go as a direct message to the person's manager.
- Team budget alerts also go as a direct message to the team's manager.
Tokenize finds each manager in Slack by their email address. If no Slack account matches, the direct message isn't sent. The channel post still goes out.
Alerts aren't sent by email. To set up Slack, see Connect Slack.
