Connect Jira

Link a Jira site so Work Intelligence can tie AI spend to the Jira epics and projects it went into.

Connecting Jira turns on the Projects view in Work Intelligence for your Jira site. Tokenize puts an issue's spend on its epic, or on its Jira project when it has no epic. One Jira site connects to one Tokenize organization.

Tokenize for Jira is a read-only Jira app. It reads issues and never changes anything in Jira.

Who can do this: Admins in Tokenize, together with a Jira admin who can install apps on your site.

If you don't see a Jira card in Settings → Integrations, Jira isn't turned on for your organization. Contact your Tokenize account team.

Connect your site

Setup has two halves: install the app in Jira, then link it with a one-time code from Tokenize.

  1. In Tokenize, go to Settings → Integrations.
  2. On the Jira card, click Install Tokenize in Jira and have a Jira admin install the app on your site. If the card has no link, contact your Tokenize account team for the install link.
  3. Back on the Jira card, click Get link code. The card shows a code like ABCD-EFGH-JKMN and when it expires. A code expires after 10 minutes and works once.
  4. In Atlassian Administration, go to Apps → Atlassian apps → Connected apps. Find Tokenize for Jira, open its ⋯ menu, and click Configure. The page is titled "Link this Jira site to Tokenize".
  5. Paste the code and click Link. Jira shows "Linked. Tokenize will start reading your site within a few minutes."

The Tokenize card updates on its own once the link goes through and shows Site: followed by your Jira site address.

The card moves through these messages:

Card saysWhat it means
"Linked. Jira sends its first update within 30 minutes."The link worked. Tokenize is waiting for Jira to start sending data.
"Connected. The first import starts within a few minutes."Jira is sending data. The import hasn't started yet.
"Connected. Importing the last 90 days of issues…"The first import is running.
"Connected. N projects, N issues. Updated …"Jira is connected and up to date.

Projects appear in Work Intelligence once the first import finishes. Until then the Projects view says "Jira is syncing" or "Jira sync queued".

Projects reads one tracker at a time. If Linear is also connected, the Projects view says "Linear and Jira are both connected". Disconnect the one you don't use. See Connect Linear.

Disconnect Jira

  1. On the Jira card, click Disconnect.
  2. Confirm Disconnect in the "Disconnect Jira?" dialog.

Tokenize stops reading the site and deletes its copy of your Jira issues. The app stays installed in Jira until a Jira admin removes it.

If the card says "A disconnect didn't finish. Disconnect again to finish it.", click Disconnect again.

Troubleshooting

"Jira stopped sending updates. If the app was removed, install it again and link a new code." Check with your Jira admin that Tokenize for Jira is still installed. Install it again if needed, then click Get link code and link the site again.

"Your Atlassian organization blocks Tokenize from reading Jira." An Atlassian data security policy blocks app access. An Atlassian org admin can allow it: in Atlassian Administration, open Security → Data security policies, then allow app access in the policy that covers your Jira projects. The card says "Tokenize checks again within an hour."

"Updates from Jira are delayed. Last update …" Tokenize hasn't received recent changes from Jira. Projects shows the last good import until updates resume.

"Code expired. Get a new one." Click Get new code and paste the new code in Jira within 10 minutes.

Jira can also refuse a code on the link page:

Jira saysWhat to do
"That code is not one Tokenize issued. Check it, or get a new one."Check you pasted the whole code, or get a new one.
"That code was already used. Get a new one from Tokenize."Click Get new code in Tokenize.
"That code has expired (codes last 10 minutes). Get a new one from Tokenize."Click Get new code in Tokenize.
"This Jira site is already linked to another Tokenize organization."A site can only be linked once. Disconnect it from the other organization first.
"Open this page as a signed-in Jira admin."Sign in to Jira as an admin and open the page again.
"Too many tries. Wait a minute and try again."Wait, then paste the code again.

"Too many Jira requests. Wait a minute and try again." Wait, then try again from the Jira card.

"Jira status couldn't be loaded." Click Refresh status.
